Are Books Important?

Party Graphs

We made a tally chart to show how many people we would like to come to our party. We lined the ice block sticks up in groups of 5 with the fifth one across the other 4. This makes it much easier to count in 5s.

We made a block chart to show what type of food we would like to have at our party. We lined up the cubes, making sure they touched and were in a straight line.

We made a pie chart to show where would like to have our party.  It was a bit tricky to get the counters into a circular pie chart.

Party Time!

In Room 15 we are looking at planning a party. First of all we had to think about the kind of party we wanted. We answered 4 questions.

1) What type of food would you like at your party? We could choose the following options:
Lunch
Tea/Dinner
Picnic including lots of little nibbles
No food

2) What kind of entertainment would you like to have?
Magician
Lots of party games
Go somewhere like ten-pin bowling or the pools
No extra entertainment

3) Where would you like to have your party?
Your house
At the park
At a restaurant or fast-food place
A place like the pools or ten-pin bowling

4) How many people would you like to have at your party?
0-4
5-9
10-14
15 or more

We went to each question and picked a cube or a counter or a stick where the colour represented the answer we had chosen.

ANZAC Day

On Friday all the schools in Havelock North gathered on the Havelock North Domain for the schools ANZAC Day memorial service. Representatives from all the schools sang, recited poems and told stories.

Fitness

Every morning Room 15 and Room 14 go out onto the field for fitness.

 

Buddy Reading

Every week we get together with out little buddies in Room 19. We listen to them read and help them to learn.

Monday 23rd March Dear Parents At Havelock North Primary we are always looking for easier and more efficient ways to communicate information to you - our parents and caregivers. We have recently set up a text service through Twitter, which will send out information regarding school activities and events. The service will also be used to send out important information in an emergency such as after an earthquake. As part of our Citizenship in the Community inquiry we have been thinking about ways to make our classrooms positive learning communities. We have also been thinking about places that are special to us. This week we start to think about people who are special to us and we will be learning how to write character portraits. Last week our PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) focus was using polite language, tone and voice level. Congratulations to Tilda Shennan (Room 15) and William Lee Smyth (Room 14) who received the PB4L certificate. This weeks focus is correct behaviour when going to the office. Lucky Book Club orders are due back in by March 30th. Please can cheques be made payable to Havelock North Primary School. Library - Now that the school library is up and running we will be having library time every Monday. Please remember to send library books back every Monday so children can choose new books. Homework Week 8 Term 1 2015

The amount of time given to complete the tasks will vary depending on what is required. 20 minutes a night is a good guide, but children are very busy these days and if you don’t have time to fit the homework in some days, or your child is just too tired, that is fine.

Reading Take a book home each night. You might get a book from your teacher, your group browsing box or from the library. Get a member of your family (Mum, Dad, Grandma etc) to sign the reading log in your Book Bag. Bring your Book Bag to school every day. Books only go home in Book Bags.

Inquiry Next week we will be writing about a person who is special to us. Talk to your family about a person who has been important in your life. Think about why this person is special. Jot down the things you want to remember. Perhaps you might be able to find a photograph or a treasure that reminds you of that person.

Monday 16th March Dear Parents Wow - Camp was amazing, but exhausting. Today the children are full of all the exciting activities they took part in. Its really interesting to hear how much they enjoyed some of the activities that they were so nervous about before they went. Last week our PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) focus was entering and exiting the classroom. Congratulations to Victoria Brougham who received the PB4L certificate.
