Term 1 Week 8
Monday 19th March
Dear Parents,
Homework – Wow
– We had some fantastic homework projects this week. We learnt about Australia,
The Big 5 in
Africa, Astronauts, Auckland, Acorns, The Andrews Family, Alice in Wonderland,
Albatros and an Antique Plane. Homework was presented on the blog (using words,
pictures, word documents and vokis) as posters and booklets. All the children
spoke beautifully about their topic and were given great feedback and
feedforward from the rest of the class.
This week the letter is
‘B’. Again children can take any subject starting with the letter ‘B’ and find
out some facts about it. It could be a place, country, animal, instrument or a
person even! We love to learn new facts on any subject. Children can then
present their new learning in any format they choose. They may want to try a
different presentation form from that they chose last week. They can create a
poster to go on the classroom wall. They can talk about their subject, maybe
they can bring it in? They could also use the computer for the project. They can
create in word, power point, publisher, maybe even find a youtube video, create
a wordle or a voki – the sky’s the limit! If the project is electronic either
email it to me, bring it in on a memory stick or put it straight onto the Room
4 Homework Wiki. The link to the wiki is on the blog and the password and
username are exactly the same as the one for Mathletics. Remember to take a
look at the ‘How to…’ pages on the wiki.
Grant Hastings – Last week we started
softball with Grant on Friday. He will be back in school this week.
Library – Our library day is Monday
Mathletics – Passwords are in homework
books and four pieces of homework are set each week. Homework has to be
completed before children can work on other areas of Mathletics.
Chocolate Fundraising
– Chocolates
will continue to be issued to children this week. Please let me know if you
don’t want any more chocolates to sell. The children are very keen to keep
bringing home more and more! If you have chocolates at home that you no longer
wish to sell please send them back in to school with any money for chocolates
already sold. There were 30 chocolates in each box.
Spelling City –Spelling City can be
accessed through the class blog or by going to http://www.spellingcity.com/
Once there choose the tab
‘Find a List’ and type ‘Mrs Duligall’ onto the search box with ‘Teacher Name’
as the criteria. Click on my name in the search result below and you will get to
the spelling lists.
Lucky Book Club
– booklets
come home today. Please send orders to the class by Friday 30th
March. Cheques to be made payable to Havelock North Primary. Due to sales on
the last issue we were given two new chapter books for the classroom, both
about a kitten called Snowball.
Kahurangi NZ Maori Dance Theatre –
This group
will be in school on Wednesday with an amazing show to share with the whole
school. Their talent has been enjoyed throughout the world and we are most
fortunate to have them at HNP.
Our History – This is our new topic,
taking us to the end of this term and then into the first 5 weeks of next term.
We are planning a visit to the CHB Museum in Waipawa and Oruawharo Homestead in
Week 2 of next term, Tuesday 1st May. A letter with all the details
regarding the trip will follow shortly.
Kind Regards,
Karen Duligall kduligall@hnps.school.nz
