Line Segment Measuring

A line segment is part of a line between two specific points. It can be straight or curved. We had to draw line segments that were 76cm long. They had to be curved or they would not fit on the paper! We had string to help us. When we cut the string at 76cm we could curl it up on the paper and draw along it.

The problem was making the string 76cm. Mrs Duligall gave us pieces of broken rulers. Some were only from the 0 to the 6cm long. Others went from 8cm up to 30cm. How could we measure 76cm using only the parts of rulers?

It was a challenge!
