Maths in Room 15

This week we have been measuring in Room 15. We have been learning to measure accurately in cm using a ruler.

Then we were asked to cut a piece of string to 1m long. But we only had our 30cm rulers to help us measure 1m.

We had lots of questions.
How do we start this task?
How long is 1m?
Some of us knew that 1m is the same as 100cm. But how could we measure 100cm using just a 30cm ruler.

Some of us worked with a buddy and some of us work by ourselves.

We worked out that 30+30+30+10=100. Then we had to measure really accurately to get to 1m.
We checked our measurements on the metre ruler.
